A while ago I set myself a little Fashion Souls challenge, in which I’d redesign a character from the Dark Souls franchise using my own ideas and design taste. I picked Lautrec because he’s (a) pretty iconic (jerk) and his armor design– while super cool, is kind of unfortunate.
For this first design I wanted to design an armor set that looked like it was made of rotting/decaying organic materials.
This process was pretty fun, I had no expectations for the final look of the designs, I was brainstorming and coming up with ideas throughout the process, but I was being extremely careful in letting each phase of the process provide enough information such that I wouldn’t be filling in invisible or making stuff up. The physical process of drawing was very tightly controlled, but the creativity and flow of ideas was loose and free, I was always finding myself tweaking things to keep myself from falling into generic dude with armor territory.
